CONTACT Portfolio Reviews

Curators and directors, publishers and photo editors are brought together for two days during CONTACT to do reviews for established and emerging artists, with a focus on documentary, photojournalism or photo-based art practices.

This is an important event for artists with projects at advanced stages of development who are seeking opportunities for publishing and exhibiting nationally or internationally—as well as looking for guidance on conceptual approaches or career development advice.

The registration fee is $200 for four reviews.
Each review is 20 minutes. 


Exhibition opening and artist talk by Rob Hornstra
Saturday May 3, 2 - 5pm 

For The Sochi Project, Hornstra followed and documented the changes in and around the town of Sochi (Abchazia) as it prepared for the Olympic Winter Games.  The exhibition will be on view in The CONTACT Gallery from May 1 - 31, 2014.

Pictures from Paradise 
Sunday May 4, 6pm

Exhibition artists will join co-curators Melanie Archer & Mariel Brown of Robert & Christopher Publishers, Trinidad and Kenneth Montague of Wedge Curatorial Projects, Toronto for a lively discussion around Caribbean identity in contemporary photography.

Portfolio Night & Cocktail Reception  
Monday May 5, 7pm
This evening is an opportunity for participants to mingle and share their portfolios with reviewers, and peers in an informal open forum. 

Please note all participants wishing to be considered for the Portfolio Reviews Exhibition Award must attend to ensure the jury has seen your work.  

The Boreal Bash with CONTACT
Tuesday May 6, 6pm

An evening of lectures and informal discussions with international guests Cheryl Newman from the Telegraph Magazine, and Lens Blog NYT's James Estrin.  In addition, participants will have the opportunity attend a Q&A with members of the Boreal Collective at 5pm. 

Portfolio Reviews Exhibition Award

One artist will be awarded a solo exhibition presented at the CONTACT Gallery in January 2015.

An exhibition artist fee of $ 2185.
$1000 gift certificate from the Festival's official retail partner Vistek.
$2500 gift certificate from Toronto Image Works to assist with production. 

Established in 2010 this award, chosen by a jury of international professional in the field of photography, recognizes outstanding work presented at CONTACT’s annual Portfolio Reviews. The program was created to support and advance the careers of talented emerging photographers.
